Agricultural Terrace Construction
View All Projects
More Stories

Agricultural terracing has been practiced for generations, allowing steep landscapes to be used to cultivate vegetable gardens, cereals, and trees. The technique provides arable land to mountain communities, prevents erosion and nutrient runoff, and allows for a remarkably efficient use of water resources.

Almond and walnut tree cultivation is a significant source of income, and the terrace infrastructure required for this activity was heavily impacted by the September 8th, 2023 earthquake. By collaborating with farmers, civil associations, and cooperatives to implement the project, we will reconstruct and expand agricultural terraces critical to livelihood.

Due to the traditional building materials and techniques required for such infrastructure, the cost of construction is limited to tools and minimal materials.

By the end of this project, 16 hectares of terraces (approximately 800 terraces) will be restored and operational, supporting an estimated 25,000 people in the High Atlas Mountains.

Psychosocial Empowerment

An adaptation of our IMAGINE workshop developed with psychologists after the September 8th earthquake, psychosocial workshops provide space for processing trauma and tools for mental, spiritual, and emotional recovery.

This milestone allows our highly trained facilitators to travel to one location, arrange a community space, provide materials and food for the four-day workshop, and lead all sessions.

Wells for Bir Anezarane Commune

The Tewirf Association, representing the nomadic community in Bir Anezarane commune, has proposed a project to restore and expand existing infrastructure on three critical wells.

Located between Dakhla Oued Ed Dabah and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra, Tourife provides water for drinking and watering camels in both regions.

Located in Bir Anezarane commune, these two wells provide water for nomadic communities and their livestock.

Constructing reservoirs for water storage will expand the capacity of the Touirfe Well, the Win Ferkane Well, and the Ouhifert Well.

Two wells need new solar pumps installed, and one needs a nonfunctioning solar pump repaired.
