Since 2024, the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) has worked hand in hand with local communities, government partners, cooperatives, universities, and international supporters to transform challenges into opportunities for sustainable development in Morocco. Through a holistic participatory approach that integrates environment, empowerment, infrastructure rehabilitation, and psychosocial well-being, HAF continues to help communities build a more resilient and prosperous future.

One of the most visible pillars of this transformation has been agricultural development. Between 2024 and 2026, HAF distributed and planted more than 3 million trees across the nation, serving more than 8,000 farming families.

During this time in the Al Haouz Province alone, 322,000 fruit and forest trees were planted across 28 communes, benefiting 2,231 farming families and representing an integral region to HAF’s larger tree planting program activities.

Supporting these efforts are HAF's community nurseries in Al Haouz’s Tadmamt in the Asni municipality and Akrich in the Tomsloht municipality, which produced more than 417,000 fruit and forest tree seedlings during the same period. Through their efforts, 491 families affected by the 2023 earthquake have been able to restore their lands and rebuild agricultural livelihoods that sustain future generations.

In the wake of the September 2023 earthquake, HAF also mobilized to provide humanitarian assistance to more than 15,000 families in the affected region. Partnering with local communities, they were able to install 183 transitional shelters for households and local cooperatives while also rehabilitating 307 agricultural terraces to help restore productive land, reduce soil erosion, and protect mountain ecosystems while securing livelihoods for thousands of rural residents.

A critical component of this assistance was water infrastructure. To further address earthquake-related damage and strengthen community resilience, HAF constructed and rehabilitated more than 98 kilometers of water infrastructure, including irrigation canals, drinking-water networks, reservoirs, and solar-powered water systems. These investments are improving water access, increasing agricultural productivity, and helping communities adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.

While rebuilding infrastructure is essential, sustainable recovery also requires investing in people. Through its psychosocial empowerment programs, HAF supported over 7,600 people across the nation, including 4,700 women, men, and children in the Al Haouz Province alone. These workshops created safe spaces for healing, self-reflection, leadership development, and community connection. Participants reported improved well-being, stronger social relationships, and greater confidence in shaping their futures.

Women's empowerment remains at the heart of HAF's development approach. In Al Haouz, the Foundation has strengthened local cooperatives through training, infrastructure support, equipment provision, and market-access opportunities. These initiatives are helping women increase their incomes, strengthen their leadership capacities, and play a greater role in local decision-making and economic development.

These achievements form part of HAF's broader commitment throughout the Marrakech-Safi region, where communities are advancing sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, water management, literacy, women's empowerment, and climate resilience. By linking environmental restoration with human development, HAF is helping communities recover from crises while creating pathways toward long-term prosperity.
